Nescafé Launches Vegan Flat White Latte Pods in UK

This month, coffee brand Nescafé will launch a line of vegan flat white latte pods in the United Kingdom. The new coffee pods—which are compatible with its Dolce Gusto machine—will first be available in almond and coconut varieties, with oat milk-based latte pods to follow, for a suggested retail price of £3.99 for a pack of 12 both on Nescafé’s website and at retailers Tesco and Sainsbury’s. Certified by the Vegan Society, Nescafé developed the pods to tap into a growing trend in the region, where one third of UK households are currently buying plant-based milk alternatives.

“At Nescafé Dolce Gusto we’re always looking to provide our customers with the best home coffee experience. Over the past few years, we’ve seen an increase in demand for dairy alternatives so we wanted to ensure these customers can still enjoy barista-style coffee at home,” Florian Ramos, Senior Brand Manager of Nescafé Dolce Gusto, told VegNews. “The new pods, which include coconut and almond alternatives, join our collection of over 50 coffee, tea, and hot chocolate pods, giving our customers the opportunity to enjoy their drinks just the way they like them, at home with their Nescafé Dolce Gusto machine.”

Nestlé’s vegan products
Stateside, Nescafé parent company Nestlé launched several vegan products in the coffee category. In 2017, Nestlé added four vegan creamer flavors to its Coffee-Mate Natural Bliss brand made from almond and coconut milk. Since then, Natural Bliss’ vegan options have expanded to include cashew- and oat milk-based creamers, half & half, and seasonal flavors of almond milk-based creamers. In 2019, the Nescafé brand also added vegan options with a line of smoothies in Banana and Mocha flavors that are made from a blend of oats, almond butter, and 100-percent Arabica coffee. By 2028, Nestlé aims to expand the vegan portion of its business to be worth $1 billion.
